IMPORTANT MEETING NOTICE

We have just set up a list at Independent Texans for “GMA 12”, Groundwater Management Area 12: Bastrop, Brazos, Burleson, Falls, Fayette, Freestone, Lee, Leon, Limestone, Madison, Milam, Navarro, Robertson, and Williamson counties.

On Monday, July 25th, GMA 12 meets in Milano, Texas at 1 pm at the Milano Civic Center (details below).  GMAs are part of the maze of bureaucracies established to manage Texas groundwater.   Please consider attending this critical meeting.

Environmental Stewardship has filed a petition to challenge GMA 12’s “Desired Future Conditions” adopted in August 2010, because they “do not include available scientific study and reliable technologies and therefore fail to protect the Colorado and Brazos rivers, area springs and streams.”  What’s more, ES Director, Steve Box, said they are concerned that GMA 12 area resources, “may be destroyed by careless disregard in a matter of a few years.” Read their press release here. Read all the background information here, including the ES formal petition.

There are carpools leaving from Bastrop, and likely other cities in GMA 12, to this meeting.  Reply to this message if you want a ride and from what area.

REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU CAN MAKE THIS MEETING, please contact your local groundwater district and let them know you support the Environmental Stewardship petition:

Brazos Valley Groundwater Conservation District (Brazos and Robertson counties)

Mid-East Texas Groundwater Conservation District (Freestone, Leon, and Madison counties)

Watch for important updates after the July 25th meeting.  Thank you!
