Come see us Monday!
This is the last petition drop off for one of our two petitions – the one to establish “Reasonable Petition Requirements for the City of Bastrop”. The recall Mayor Ken Kesselus petition drive will continue for now.
At our meeting next Monday, we’re going to talk about the status of both petition drives. We’ll also give you a bird’s eye view, pun intended, on the “water wars” in the Bastrop and surrounding areas that seem to be driving decisions in our communities. Due to limited seating, this event is for petition signers and our active supporters. We will be asking you to weigh in on some decisions we need to make.
We will also be at the next City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 26th, at 6:30 pm at City Hall. You can turn in recall petitions to us there if you like.
Did you see our guest column in Thursday’s Bastrop Advertiser? Here’s our version — please read and share. Be sure to read the beef we have with the unrepentent Joe Beal and Mayor Kesselus. It’s in the eighth paragraph.
►Please note that we have been asked by the good folks at the newly formed non-profit Simsboro Aquifer Water Defense Fund (SAWDF) to tell you that there was an erroneous report about their efforts in Thursday’s Bastrop Advertiser. This was a well-intentioned, but nevertheless misleading article. The “water wars” are very complex with many fronts and moving parts, so it’s easy to make mistakes. Bottom line is that SAWDF is NOT involved in the dispute between landowners and the city of Bastrop known as “CityofBastrop/XS Ranch permit”. More details here from SAWDF.
►We’ve also been meaning to tell you that the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance annual conference is coming to Bastrop on September 25-27! Early bird rates end on August 25th. If you’re a farmer, a rancher, a gardener, a local foods advocate or just plain interested in small agriculture, we highly recommend FARFA’s annual conference. Besides, they know how to put on a great event and feed you very well! More here.
Don’t mourn, y’all. Organize!
