Don’t Miss these Upcoming Events!
►Wednesday, September 7, 7 pm, Bastrop: In a rare appearance, world traveler and Austin whistleblower developer, Brian Rodgers, will speak on: “Bastrop: Beacon for Affordability or Austin’s Dumping Ground?” Details here.
►Friday, September 16, 11 to 1 pm, San Marcos: Who says you can’t fight growth? The growth machine, of course. Join our good ol’ fashioned picket line outside the Growth Summit where the real estate lobby will partake in a feeding frenzy over building the megalopolis between San Antonio and Austin. That’s right, Hays County, you’re in the crosshairs. San Antonio Mayor Ivy “I’m-here-to-steal-your water” Taylor speaks along with Austin Mayor Steve “ain’t-growth-grand!” Adler. Reply if you plan to join us. More here.►Sunday thru Tuesday, Sept. 25-27: Every year we urge you to go to the fantabulous Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance Conference. It’s back at the Bastrop Convention Center. Early registration rates ends tomorrow! More here.
The independent movement is moving statewide! Remember, you can comment at the bottom these linked pages and submit your own report too.
City of Bastrop: Our petition for Reasonable Petition Requirements in the City of Bastrop is on the November ballot, despite the clenched teeth of the Bastrop City Council. It’s also in Five “Easy” Pieces — you’ll have to vote five times to get your petition rights. Read this and be sure to come see us on September 7th.
Hays County: Ambush at Trininty-Hays Groundwater Conservation District from Susan Cook of Driftwood.
Simsboro communities (Bastrop, Lee, Burleson & Milam counties): End Op, L.P. hit a bump on its mega-water grab just as the Simsboro Aquifer Water Defense Fund is jump starting. Send your donations to SAWDF at this corrected address: PO Box 690, Elgin, TX 78621. Read this excellent piece in the Elgin Courier.
Aubrey (Denton County): Have you read Aubrey Councilman (and very independent) Calvin Tillman’s blog lately? What would Texas be like if all our local officials had Calvin’s cojones? Calvin for President!
Update – lawsuit to stop SW-45 in SW Austin thanks to the Golden Cheeked Warbler, no thanks to the influence-peddling Regional Mobility Authority.
Austin & San Antonio: Can you spell KLEPTOCRACY? Both cities have rendered our rights to petition for a voter referendum (to reverse a Council decision) null and void with huge financial and energy/water/property rights consequences. Here’s what we told the Texas Senate Intergovernmental Relations Committee.
Oops, we almost forgot…please donate!
P.S. We need volunteers now in Austin, Bastrop and San Marcos — and soon in San Antonio — with a variety of skills. Contact us if you’re interested.
