Advisory – Press Conference

Advisory Press Conference:

When:  Wednesday, March 20, 6:45 pm (Note:  the public hearing starts at 7 pm, though the meeting of the LPGCD begins at 6 pm)

Where:  Bastrop City Hall, 1311 Chestnut, Bastrop, Texas at a hearing of the Lost Pines Groundwater Conservation District

Who:  Linda Curtis, Independent Texans, Phil Cook, Sierra Club, Steve Box, Environmental Stewardship

Background:  this conference is relevant to all Texans and especially Bastrop, Lee, Travis, Willamson and Hays county residents and officials. The LPGCD has lifted its moratorium on permit applications for groundwater.  Tomorrow they will begin voting on permit applications for 124,000 acre feet of groundwater from the Simsboro portion of the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer underlying Bastrop and Lee counties.  106,000 acre feet of these applications are for export primarily to Hays, Travis and Williamson counties.  Two years ago the LPGCD, despite threats of litigation and political pressure, the LGGCD instituted a moratorium on permits, something widely supported by residents of Bastrop and Lee counties. Expected Attendance:  Citizens of Bastrop and Lee County and from affected counties will speak at this critically important hearing of the Lost Pines Groundwater Conservation District.  Bastrop County officials are also expected to attend.
